GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT DIPLOMA (GED)
Students who withdraw from school prior to graduation should check with a Guidance Counselor concerning the regulations for taking the GED test. The GED Program is sponsored by the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Eastern Westmoreland Area Vocational-Technical School and the Pennsylvania Job Service. This program helps persons gain a high school equivalency diploma. Any Pennsylvania resident 18 years or older may apply, although people 16 to 18 may qualify if they fall under certain provisions. Further information can be obtained through a Guidance Counselor or by contacting the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. at P.O. Box 143, Latrobe PA at 724-537-2671. 
CALDWELL MEMORIAL LIBRARY
The Derry Area School District, in partnership with Adams Memorial Library of Latrobe, operates the satellite Caldwell Memorial Library in the High School Library which is open to all community members. All library services for children through adult offered by Adams Memorial Library are available at the High School Library. Books may be picked up or dropped off at either site. Hours for the Community are as follows, but are subject to change. The telephone number for the Caldwell Memorial Community Library is 694-5765. Access to the Internet is available at the Library, by first contacting the librarian. Announcements of special library programs will appear in the quarterly calendar as well as local news media.  Title I supports a Parent Resource Section in this library.

GOLD CARD
Passes for Derry Area senior citizens (65 or over, or retired people 62 years of age) are available from the Superintendent's Office. These passes permit senior citizens free or reduced admission to many school sponsored activities such as home athletic events, plays, concerts, etc. 
RENTAL OF SCHOOL FACILITIES/COMMUNITY USE
School facilities of the Derry Area School District are available for community use. Residents who desire to use school facilities should contact the office of the Superintendent and discuss the rules, availability, costs, etc., and to complete the necessary application forms. Copies of the school district policy on community use of school buildings are available in the office of the Superintendent. Certain facilities do require approval of the Board of Education. 
SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS 
The Derry Area School District operates a volunteer program which is known as Parents Assisting Learning. The parents who donate their time and talents are called PALS. The District invites any parent or community member who would like to be involved with children and youth and has a talent that they might share, to call Mrs. Brenda Bitz, PAL Coordinator at 694-1401 for an appointment. PALS are needed at all levels, especially secondary. 
TITLE I PARENTS ADVISORY COUNCIL
An active Title I Parent Advisory Council meets regularly to advise staff members regarding the district's remedial reading program. Parents of children in the program, as well as parents of any school age child, can be considered for membership on the council. Interested persons should call the Title I Coordinator at 724-694-1447 for additional information.
DERRY AREA PARENT/TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO)
An active Derry Area Parent/Teacher Organization meets regularly. All parents are encouraged to join and support this service group. Interested parents should call 694-1401 for more information.
