One of most visible signs or symbols of education today is the “yellow school bus.”  For most students, the first and last contact with the school is the ride to school and back home.  The school bus driver is the focal point every morning and afternoon.  The Derry Area School District is very good at handling the “precious cargo” of our future and realizing the safety and responsibility of each and every student.

The Derry Area School Distinct sub contracts its transportation services to Smith Bus Company, which is located in Blairsville.  For many years, the school district and Smith Bus Company has maintained an extremely close and productive working relationship.  The Transportation Department and Smith Bus Company are in constant contact each day to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient operations of the school district’s transportation.  Overall, the school district is very pleased with the services Smith Bus Company provides for our students.

The Transportation Department and Smith Bus Company provide services for public, non-public, and special needs students within the Derry Area School District.  Each year, routes and bus stops are evaluated to ensure their safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.  The Derry Area School District and Smith Bus Company make every effort to accommodate students and families’ needs within the realm of policies, laws, and state and federal regulations.  Transportation services are also provided for numerous extracurricular activities and athletic events scheduled by the school district.
